Healing On My Terms: Men Supporting Men Online Support Group

Have you had concerns about your relationships, getting hit with having no direction, chaotic thoughts? You may be struggling with life stress, anger, insecurity, or anxiety. Many men deal with self-doubt or shame, not feeling good enough about themselves and having difficulty expressing emotions or being able to be themselves because of the perception who others feel they should be.

Society has perpetuated the false claims that real men don’t need anyone and weak men express vulnerability or are not man enough. This concept has caused a great deal of unnecessary suffering in men and prevented emotional growth and maturity. Has your need to express your emotions made you feel abandoned because the fear of being an emotional being is seen as weak? Have you suffered in silence because you feel you have no one to talk to? Giving in to the devastation of stuffing your feelings has made you lash out in anger, seem easily frustrated or irritated, sad or act out in risky behavior like drug use, emotional detachment in relationships/marriage/friendships, or meaningless/excessive sex. Your lack of expression, understanding, and support from like-minded men can feel lonely and isolated.

Healing On My Terms Men Support Group helps men start to process, understand, and heal their own trauma or emotional stagnation, and learn to cope with accepting how they feel while learning how to establish and manage deeper and intimate emotional connections with others. The group was created so that men can work to demolish the false narratives of men being weak when they lean into their vulnerabilities and gain awareness and acceptance of their true emotional selves.

ONLINE GROUP COUNSELING FOR COPARENTS FAQS:

  • You can gain a sense of relief from hearing that others struggle with similar issues. It lessens feelings of loneliness and isolation. Often people feel that they are the only person they know with anxiety, not feeling good enough, depression, relationship issues, grief, etc., but it’s simply not true.

  • If, for example, you talk about a fight you had with your partner, group members can see things that you don’t. Hearing from other people about how you come across can be very powerful. You will receive a range of perspectives on your situation that can help you address your issue differently than you would have before.

  • Hearing how other members successfully confronted a family member, upheld a boundary, or successfully used a coping skill can be very encouraging. You may feel motivated to push yourself when you see that others have had success in the same area.

  • Some people believe that group therapy is less effective because it costs less, but that is a myth. Participating in the right group at the right time can be incredibly powerful. Some believe group therapy is more beneficial than individual therapy.

  • Every person in the group holds up a mirror and you get to see yourself through their eyes. They can gently point out your blind spots that are preventing you from addressing your presenting problems.

  • All of the groups offered are offered online. This option would be beneficial to parents that can't find or afford additional childcare, those not close enough to attend in person, working professionals that need more flexibility, or those more comfortable attending group from home. Online Group therapy has its limits but for the right person can be just as effective as in-person therapy.
